MACABRE DAILY - "Persimmon Acquires Sci-Fi Thriller, "RECOLLECTION" (2025) For Release This March!" by Matt Orozco
Part of living is knowing that sometimes, we will experience things that leave us with a bad memory. This can range from benign moments like fumbling over one’s words during a speech, to the traumatic, like abuse or assault. These moments can be so profound that they literally alter the remainder of our lives, but what if we could erase those bad memories after they happen? That’s the central question in 2025’s “Recollection,” which was recently acquired by Persimmon for distribution this March!
Persimmon has acquired worldwide distribution rights to “Recollection,” a female-led sci-fi thriller set for release on March 19, 2026. The film will debut in select theaters before rolling out across digital and VOD platforms. The film stars Rosslyn Luke, Falk Hentschel, Cesar Garcia, Eric Roberts, and Gary Graham, marking Graham’s final feature role prior to his death in 2024.
Set in the year 2033, “Recollection” follows Kate Parker (Luke), a young employee at Vitality, a corporation that governs society through mandatory memory cleansing. When a system glitch floods Kate’s mind with a life that was forcibly erased, she becomes a target of Vitality’s efforts to reclaim her past. On the run, she teams up with Teddy (Hentschel), who believes evidence of his wife’s murder is hidden within Kate’s memories. Alongside Sid Dyas (Roberts), they race to uncover the truth and expose Vitality before Kate loses her identity once again.
Recollection was written, directed, and produced by Paradox Studios, a family-run production company based in Idaho. Caden Butera served as director, writer, and editor, while his brother Rylan Butera co-wrote the story and composed the music. The project was produced by their mother, Jackie Butera, and executive-produced by their father, Mark Butera.
"Recollection is suspenseful and heartfelt science fiction that is able to ground itself with the emotion at the film’s core. Persimmon is thrilled to be the worldwide partner for ‘Recollection,’” said Persimmon’s Acquisition Manager Mackenzie Maguire.
“Growing up with a mental health therapist mother, I’ve always gravitated towards psychology and stories of personal resilience. Since the sci-fi genre allows for small, personal ideas to be explored in a spectacle-induced, larger-than-life way, making a mental health-driven sci-fi seemed like the obvious choice. So many movies about loss are about moving on and learning to let go. As someone who maybe compartmentalizes and moves on too quickly, I wanted to tell a story that encourages you to hold on and remember,” said Caden Butera, Writer-Director
